Visit of Archbishop Anastasios of Albania in New York

Anastasios of albaniaArchbishop Anastasios of Albania met with religious leaders, politicians and members of the Greek-American Community, during his visit in New York.

Archbishop Demetrios of America hosted a dinner in honor of Anastasios which was attended by the Roman Catholic Archbishop of New York, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, diplomats and representatives of  the Archdiocese of America. Archbishop Demetrios praised the missionary work of the Archbishop Anastasios and the progress of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania.

Archbishop Anastasios spoke of his missionary experience and the relations of the Orthodox Church with other religious communities.

Greece was represented by the Greek Ambassador to the United States, Christos Panagopoulos, the Permanent Representative of Greece to the United Nations, Michel Spinellis and the Consul General in New York George Iliopoulos. Cyprus was represented by its Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Nikos Aimiliou and the new Cypriot Consul General in New York, Vasilis Philippou.

Archbishop Anastasios of Albania,  presented a lecture in the Fordham University entitled: “Orthodoxy in America.”  During a special ceremony, the university offered him  an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters.

Finally, on January 30, Archbishop Anastasios, will participate in events organized by the Archdiocese of America for the celebration of the Day of the Three Hierarchs and Greek Letters where he will speak to Greek American students. On the same day he will be the keynote speaker at a gala event in the Metropolitan Club of New York.
