Surely a match between a team with a 7-30 record and a team that struggles to enter the playoffs would not be the centre of media attention. We are talking of course, about the encounter between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Memphis Grizzlies. However, when three Greek players are going to play in an NBA match, certainly there is a story to tell.

For the first time in NBA’s history, three Greek players participated in a single match. Bucks rookie Giannis Antetokounmpo faced Memphis center, Kostas Koufos and the point guard, Nick Calathes.

These facts led the famous show “The Starters” of NBA.com to concentrate more on this “Greek clash.” One of the hosts, Tas Melas — who has Greek roots — during the presentation video of the game, stood up from his chair and proudly started singing the Greek national anthem. This gesture of the Hellenic-American host stunned all people who were in the studio and those who were watching the TV show. As soon as he stopped singing he shouted “Hellas” and the other hosts of the show applauded him.

Just for the record, Kostas Koufos and Nick Calathes beat Giannis Antetokounmpo, as Milwaukee was defeated by Memphis 77-82. Koufos had a big contribution to his team victory with 10 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocks in 22 minutes. Nick Calathes also helped his team with 3 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist in 13 minutes.

Giannis Antetokounmpo on the other side, was once again in the starting five of his team, but failed to help Milwaukee achieve victory in this clash.
