Venizelos Meeting with U.S. Officials

Venizelos-KerryGreece’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Evangelos Venizelos after his visit in Paris, France, will travel to the U.S. to meet with American officials and Greek organizations.

On Thursday January 16, the Greek Deputy Prime Minister will visit Washington, where he will meet with the  U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry. The two politicians will discuss the issues of bilateral and international interest, such as the Cypriot issue, the naming dispute with FYROM, energy matters and Greece’s greater geostrategic role in the southeast Mediterranean, as well as issues concerning the Greek Presidency of the European Union.

On Friday, January 17, Venizelos will meet with the U.S. Treasury Secretary, Jack Lew, in order to inform him on the progress of the Greek economy and the priorities of the Greek Presidency towards the economic governance of the EU.

During his presence in Washington, the Greek Deputy Prime Minister will meet in Congress, with the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Senate, Robert Menendez, as well as the chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the House of Representatives, Ed Royce.

Finally, he will be in contact with executives of American think tanks, and representatives of Greek Diaspora organizations.

Venizelos visited Paris on Monday January 13, where he met with his French counterpart, Laurent Fabius and members of the French government to discuss the priorities of Greece’s EU presidency.
