Ancient Greek Theater in Harlem

Christos Godas proves that Greek culture is alive and continues to affect people around the world in his new short film created for the program “Platos’s Academy.” The film features schools from around the world that have been actively involved with Greek civilization.

Plato’s Academy is a program supported by the Onassis Foundation, alongside the University of Athens and Onassis Cultural Centre, which shows particular sensitivity to these kind of issues.

Christos Godas received a scholarship from the Onassis Foundation in order to study at the University of Miami. For several years he worked as a tour guide, which is one of the main reasons he was selected to direct the documentary that aired for the first time early in the afternoon on Thursday, January 9, at the Frederick Douglas Academy.

A production of the ancient Greek play “Lysistrata” was organized by a school in Harlem, New York,  in collaboration with the Aquilla Theatre of New York, a fact that played an important role in its involvement in the documentary. This specific production was also performed in the ancient theater of Orchomenus.

“The experience of working with people from around the world who know so much about Greece is shocking,” said Godas. “It’s humbling to hear a young kid from the other side of the world, say that when he ran the same route as that of the Olympic Games in Greece, it was the most important experience of his life and will affect him forever.”

Christos Godas was born and raised in Piraeus, Greece. After studying Social Theology at the University of Athens and Film Directing at the L. Stavrakos School, he completed his post-graduate studies in Miami. Furthermore, he wrote the script, as well as producing and directing four short films.

For many years he worked as an assistant director and production assistant on various commercials, TV series and movies, both Greek and International, as well as the transmission of the Olympic Games 2004.

Recently, Chris Godas finished writing a play entitled “What did Mickey do for a living” which he has already made into a movie script. The film story will be a correlation of Alexis Grigoropoulos’ murder with a similar incident in America, which caused a huge public reaction and was even addressed by president Barack Obama.
