Greek Ambassador to Attend Annapolis Mayoral Inauguration

annapolis_pantelidesGreece’s ambassador to the United States will attend the inauguration of elected Mayor of Annapolis, Mike Pantelides, and the new City Council on Monday afternoon.

Pantelides released a preview of the inaugural program via social media Tuesday afternoon. The event features a lineup of remarks by local politicians and ministers and the administration of the oath of office.

The speech of two high-ranking foreign dignitaries will follow such as Christos P. Panagopoulous and Greece’s ambassador to the United States, as well as by Neophytos J. Constantinou, counsil for the embassy for the Republic of Cyprus.

The event will feature other personal touches from Pantelides, including an invocation from a Greek Orthodox priest and a color guard from the Boy Scouts. Pantelides is an Eagle Scout.

Pantelides is Republican, so there will be many Republican representatives, including Anne Arundel, County Executive Laura Neuman and state Senator Ed Reilly of Crofton, who will be the master of ceremonies.

Speaking at the event, is one of the state’s most powerful Democrats, House of Delegates Speaker Michael E. Busch.  The U.S. Rep. John P. Sarbanes, a Democrat who represents the Annapolis area, and who is also of Greek heritage, is also scheduled to speak at the ceremony.

Joining Pantelides at the inauguration will be the eight members of the city council: Joe Budge, Fred Paone, Rhonda Pindell Charles, Sheila Finlayson, Jared Littmann, Kenneth Kirgy, Ian Pfeiffer and Ross Arnett.
