US Backs TAP Line Through Greece

TAPThe United States has lauded the selection by Azerbaijan of the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) of natural gas as an “important achievement”.

According to the US State Department Deputy Spokesman Patrick Ventrell, Azerbaijan’s Shaz Deniz consortium announced, as far as development in the natural gas field is concerned, its selection for the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), targeting at providing natural gas to Europe. It will pass through Greece.

This is an important achievement for Azerbaijan and an important step forward for the creation of the Southern Gas Corridor, which will transport natural gas from the Caspian Sea to the European consumers, as Ventrell pointed out.

The Deputy Spokesman stressed out that the Southern Pipeline, which will include South Caucasus pipeline expansion passing through Azerbaijan and Georgia, and the expansion of the Trans-Anatolian pipeline passing through Turkey, will bring a new source of natural gas supply to Europe. This is a target that the USA support vigorously, as he noted.

Ventrell also pointed out that TAP’s selection as the means to connect gas from the Caspian to Europe is another important step for the procedure of promoting Europe’s energy safety and promoting competitiveness in energy resources supply.
