Greek-Australian Peter Skyllas, 51, from Bronx, New York, is among the 34 people who were arrested last month with charges of involvement in illegal gambling and betting circuits.
On April 16, according to investigators, the 34 people allegedly involved in an offshore sports betting operation, were a Russian organized crime operation that included illegal, high-stakes poker games for the rich and famous, and threats of violence to make sure customers paid their debts.
FBI tapes reveal more information about the crackdown on the illegal high stakes gambling ring in New York. According to official court papers, FBI had an active surveillance on what federal authorities have described as two related multimillion-dollar money-laundering and gambling rings.
Because of all this, the Greek-American bettor’s life seemed to have been collapsing under the weight of his gambling debts. So in April, the owner of Titan Plumbing, Peter Skyllas, essentially signed his company over to the organization to save himself from over $2 million in losses.
