Former Lawyer Kalpakis Charged With Stealing $4M

63100 kalpakisbAccording to Nassau County District Attorney, Kathleen Rice’s announcement, a disbarred attorney has been indicted on multiple felonies for stealing more than $4 million from multiple individuals and banks he was representing in real estate deals, including among them his own wife, the National Herald reported.

Greek-American James Kalpakis, 52, of Old Westbury, was arraigned on  May 21 on a grand jury indictment charging him with two counts of first degree grand larceny, five counts of second degree grand larceny, four counts of third degree grand larceny, 10 counts of second degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and two counts of first degree offering a false instrument for filing.

Kalpakis was originally arrested in January 2011 and charged with grand larceny in the First Degree and three counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument in the Second Degree.

Prosecutors are continuing investigation and additional charges may follow.
