Greece and Troika Agreement in US Media

journalAccording to the U.S. media, there is satisfaction with the agreement dealt between The Greek Government and the Troika.

The Joint Communiqué of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the European Commission and the European Central Bank are promoted by the U.S Media as well as the announcement of Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, who said that ‘the agreement showed that years of austerity in Greece have begun to bear fruits,” according to “New York Times”.

The NYT, as well as other media, gave emphasis to the Prime Minister’s statement that “The situation is changing,” he said. “Until recently, Greece had been the example to avoid. In two years, Greece will no longer depend on the memorandum. It will be a country with growth.”

After almost two weeks of “intense negotiations” he said, Greece and the Troika have reached an agreement on the economic measures to be imposed in order to give an installment of 2.8 billion euros, while the Eurogroup and the IMF’s Executive Board are expected to examine the approval of the assessment later in May.

According to New York Times, in his address, Samaras said the 15,000 layoffs in the state sector would be replaced by new recruits as part of “a qualitative upgrade of the civil service.”

“The same number of new young people will be recruited in their place,” he said.

Meanwhile, the newspaper “Wall Street Journal” reporting from Athens, refers to the optimistic forecasts of Greek and foreign tour operators for the positive developmnetns in the tourist industry in Greece.

The extra tourists will bring an additional tourism income of 1 billion euros, according to tourism experts, provided that there will not be any unforeseen factors such as violent demonstrations and terrorist attacks.
