Calamos Supports Greece

CFA Will Help Cyprus

federationThe annual conference of the Cyprus Federation of America (CFA), which was held in Queens, New York on April 6,  decided to send financial and material assistance to Cyprus and to carry out meetings in Washington to prevent negative developments regarding the Cypriot issue.

Archbishop Demetrios of America referred to the recent meeting at the Archdiocese and to the telephone conversations he had with the President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades and Archbishop Chrysostomos. “We will act on two levels, economic and political,” he said.

As he mentioned through the Archbishopric of Cyprus, the Diaspora will send help to organizations and individuals who have urgent needs. He also talked about his forthcoming meeting with President Obama at the White House on April 18, during which he will raise the issues of Cyprus and Greece.

Demetrios awarded the outgoing President of the Cyprus Federation of America, Peter Papanikolaou, the highest order of the Archdiocese of America, the Grand Cross of St. Paul, “in recognition of his multi-annual contribution to Orthodoxy and Hellenism”.

The Cypriot Government was represented at the conference by the Permanent Representative of Cyprus to the UN, Ambassador Nikos Aimiliou.
