N.Y. FBI’s Venizelos Greek Parade Grand Marshal

20110109_inq_fbi09z-aGeorge Venizelos, FBI Assistant Director in Charge (New York Division) will be the Grand Marshal of this year’s Greek Independence Day Parade, on April 7 in Manhattan, an affair that will be the culmination of months of hard work on the part of the members of the Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York (FHSGNY).

It’s an event anticipated by Greek communities all over New York City, but particularly by those in Astoria, an area with a large Greek population, where the FHSGNY is headquartered. Parade Co-chairmen John Catsimatidis, Elias Tsekerides and Dino Rallis of the FHSGNY all expressed pride in Venizelos, emphasizing how much they appreciate the high level of patriotism and professionalism he and so many other Greek American military personnel and elected officials have exhibited in the U.S. for so many years.

The 75th Greek Independence Day Parade will be the event of the day in New York with more than 50 floats and numerous bands and a crowd of more than 100,000.  A number of  events will surround the parade: a Night Gala on March 30, at Terrace on the Park in Queens; a telethon for the Greek Parade, on March 31 on NGTV; raising  of the Greek flag at Bowling Green in Downtown Manhattan on April 5, and another raising of the Greek flag, April 6, at Athens Square Park in Astoria followed by an exhibition of Greek dance groups.
