Onassis Foundation’s Chairman to be Honored in Chicago

national hellenic museumThe National Hellenic Museum in Chicagο is going to honor Antonis Papadimitriou, Chairman of the Onassis Foundation.

According to the Museum, Papadimitriou will be given the Excellence Award for his contribution to the promotion of the Greek cultural heritage worldwide.

The awarding ceremony will take place within the framework of the annual dinner, which will be organized by the National Hellenic Museum in a hotel in “The Windy City”, as Chicago is known, on Saturday, March 2.

The announcement includes details of the  “multifaceted social and humanitarian work” offered by Papadimitriou and the Onassis Foundation.

The affiliated Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation in the USA, based in New York, was established in 1999. It was inaugurated in October 2000 with a major exhibition of 20th century Greek paintings and influenced by classical antiquity, organized in collaboration with the Greek National Gallery.

The purpose of the affiliated foundation is to promote Greek culture in the USA and to cultivate cultural bilateral relations. In the present cultural environment of international interaction and globalization, the Foundation deems necessary to draw attention to the importance of the Greek spirit and its significant contribution to contemporary civilization.

The affiliated foundation is housed in the Olympic Tower on Fifth Avenue, in the heart of New York. Its activities are the promotion of modern Greek culture through exhibitions and other cultural and educational events in North and South America.
