Repower Greece Discussion Series in the US‏

RepowerThe international public diplomacy campaign Repower Greece is organizing an academic discussion series that will take place from Feb. 3 to 12, in 14 leading Universities of the East Coast in the United States.

Repower Greece seeks to restore the credibility of Greece and confront the world’s negative perceptions about her people, by showcasing stories from key sectors of the country’s economy, education and civil society which offer clear evidence that Greece is not the failures or special interests of the few, but rather the talents and achievements of the many.

Through a variety of discussion events and programs with academic institutions, community organizations and think tanks across the world, these stories reflect the organization’s commitment to work diligently, forge solutions and move forward with a renewed result-oriented mindset.

Having completed one year of innovative and fertile programs, in holding these academic discussion events, Repower Greece aims to raise the level of public debate about Greece and the efforts of her people to shape positive change, forge solutions and move forward.

The discussion events are not generic events with a specific format, but rather adjusted to the needs and interests of each academic institution and audience. For example, events at Harvard, Yale, and MIT will consist of a presentation by the Repower Greece team on the organization’s efforts, followed by presentations by students and faculty regarding what each speaker believes to be the most effective way to re-power Greece.

Conversely, students at Georgetown and NYU have chosen a very different approach. At these schools, there will be informal round-table discussions regarding ways in which Greece could restore its credibility and ultimately  redefine its image in the eyes of the international community. At the City University of NY, a more formal panel discussion will take place on how to re-power Greece, featuring faculty members and the Repower Greece team.

RepowerGreece is a volunteer grassroots initiative open to everyone, designed in such a way that any public or private organization, academic institution, company or media can join the campaign and spread the word to their own network.

Academic institutes included in February’s discussion series are: Georgetown University | Virginia Tech (Graduate Center) | Harvard University | Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) | Boston University | Hellenic College- Holy Cross Seminary (HCHC) | Boston College | Hunter College | New York University | City College of New York- City University of New York | Columbia University | Fordham University | University of Connecticut | Yale University
