“Diaspora Greeks in America remain close to Greeks who are affected in these adverse conditions by the financial crisis,” Archbishop Dimitrios of America said in a recorded message, adding that “we strongly support you in all ways.”
The Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church of America wished Greeks a Merry Christmas and noted that in light of the estimated long duration of the crisis, the Greeks of America will support their home country to the degree it is possible.
“I give you my wishes and I promise we will be by your side, we know yours struggles, your agony, adverse conditions and impasses you have to deal with. We support you, we pray for you to God. God is here and he will keep his commitment to be with us until the end, as he did in the past. He will lead our homeland surmounting the difficulties. Christ is born, glorify Him. Christ is on earth, exalt Him.”
Let us rejoice in gladness for the ineffable condescension of God. The angels precede us singing: “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, good will among all people.”
Yet, on earth we behold and experience wars and threats of wars. Still, the joyful announcement is in no way annulled. Peace has truly come to earth through reconciliation between God and people in the person of Jesus Christ.” Archbishop Dimitrios said.
