John Catsimatidis for NYC Mayor?

John Catsimatidis had been wanted to run for mayor of New York for a few years now. The last time he backed out after mayor Bloomberg decided to run for another term.

Catsimatidis has been talking well about the current New York City mayor and since Mayor Bloomberg won’t run again the Greek-American feels that now is the right time for him to get the position.

Catsimatidis in an interview with the Daily News confirmed that he will seek to become New York’s next mayor by running as a Republican. He would bow out of the race only if Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly jumps in.

Last January Catsimatidis had said that he was thinking seriously to run for mayor in an exclusive interview with the Greek reporter.

After making noise for years about running for mayor, Catsimatidis says he will file papers Monday creating a committee to explore a candidacy.

Like Mayor Bloomberg, Catsimatidis is a former Democrat seeking a second act after a fabulously successful business career.

John Catsimatidis is currently the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Red Apple Group and his fortune today exceeds the billion dollar mark. Red Apple Group has holdings in oil refining, wholesale and retail petroleum distribution, convenience stores, supermarkets, real estate, and aviation.

The Greek-American billionaire is a major employer in New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio with over 8,000 employees, a global leader in the Greek Orthodox Church, in which he chairs the Religious Freedom Committee, bonding together Orthodox Christians, Catholics, and Jews in support of religious freedom around the world.
