Archbishop Iakovos’ 70th Anniversary Marked

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the late Archbishop Iakovos’ appointment as Dean of the Annunciation Cathedral in Boston, Archbishop Demetrios led the divine liturgy and the memorial service honoring the Primate of the the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America who served the Greek Orthodox Church and community from 1959 until his resignation in 1996.

At the end of the memorial service, a book containing the letters and shedding light on the various activities of the late Archbishop was presented to the congregation. The book was completed by Archimandrite Kleopas of the Annunciation Cathedral and based on the archives of the Archdiocese of America.

In the luncheon that followed in the Cathedral Center in Brookline Massachusetts, various presentations focused on the during World War II and after the end of it. The Greek General Consul to Boston, Elias Fotopoulos, underlined the political figure behind the religious man, who had been a prominent supporter of civil rights in the USA.
