The Federation of the Hellenic Societies of New York in cooperation with many Hellenic associations, organized a series of events to mark the anniversary of Oxi, Oct.28.

In the morning, lots of people attended the casual thanksgiving marked at St Catherine’s church, and afterwards Diaspora representatives symbolically paraded along the way from the Church to the Federation of the Greek Associations’ offices of New York. The Consul General of Cyprus to NY, Mrs Koula Sofianou together with the Consul of Greece to NY Mr. Evangelos Kyriakopoulos also participated in the parade.

In his statement to the Voice of America, the President of the Federation of the Hellenic Societies Mr. Elias Tsekeridis, highlighted the Diaspora’s duty to remember and honor Greece’s sacrifice.”That is why we had a memorial service for the 1940 Greek-Italian War victims.” However, there was little attendance due to the impending storm.
