Greek Woman Killed During Brockton Police Chase is Remembered

Maryanne Kotsiopoulos, 49

Authorities are probing a police chase during which Antwoin Moore slammed into another vehicle on Friday, killing one woman and injuring several others.
Maryanne Kotsiopoulos, 49, of Brockton, was killed when her car was struck in the intersection of Centre and Quincy streets by a car driven by Moore, 27, of Brockton.
Moore was scheduled to be arraigned today in Brockton District Court. He is charged with manslaughter, assault with a dangerous weapon, operating a motor vehicle to endanger and other motor vehicle violations.
Authorities said Moore drove through a red light at the intersection with Centre Street and slammed into Kotsiopoulos’ car, causing an eight-car pile up that killed her and sent several other people to nearby Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital.
Investigators on Sunday were trying to determine how fast Moore was traveling when he struck Kotsiopoulos’ car during the chase, which Assistant District Attorney Bridget Norton Middleton said was related to a Brockton police narcotics investigation.
“It’s still under investigation,” Middleton said Sunday. “Any determination of speed will await analysis by the State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit.”
Autopsy results are pending on Kotsiopoulos, said Middleton, who declined further comment citing an ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, employees at the Rockland-based North River Collaborative, where Kotsiopoulos worked as a driver of special needs students, are mourning her loss.
“She was just always smiling, laughing, always asking you how you were, loved the students,” said her boss, Ann Terrill, transportation coordinator for the collaborative.
“Everybody’s shocked,” Terrill said. “It’s going to be hard to replace somebody like her. It’s a shame.”
Kotsiopoulos worked as a driver for the collaborative for about a year, and transported students from their homes to schools in Hanover, Terrill said.
She was on her way home from work when she was killed Friday, Terrill said.
“Nobody can believe it happened,” she said.
