Hellenic Relief Concert for Greeks in Need

The Hellenic Relief Foundation INC. is continuing its coordinated efforts aiming at offering help to the vulnerable groups of the Greek people facing a fifth year of recession and a crushing economic crisis.

Established in New York in February 2012 by Americans of Hellenic descent who want to help provide needy Greeks with health and nutrition, the foundation is an Hellenic-American independent entity based on volunteer work.

The group held a fundraising concert entitled Greek Musical Adventure at the Chian Association of America in Astoria. More than 450 people attended and some $10,000 was raised.

The concert featured popular singer Gregory Maninakis and his band Mikrokosmos, singer Makaria Psiliteli, Lina Orfanou, Anna Eliopoulos and Elena Toumaras, who donated their efforts. Foundation coordinator Stelios Taketzis said 2,750 parcels with food and basic necessities have been delivered to Greece and $51.000 raised.

“The concert helped us raise even more money for the vulnerable groups in Greece” explained Taketzis. The foundation is being supported by many Greekis, and Greek-American enterprises and organizations.
