Greek actor Dimos Gigantakis, a little person with big ambitions, has taken his skills and showmanship to Las Vegas after spending six years in Germany and is riding high with a new career. He said he decided to head for the gambling and show city after some health problems and because he thought he would have better opportunities.
Gigantakis was born in Chalkida, Greece, and despite his small stature, decided to chase his dream of being a performer. Gigantakis is not his real name, but a stage name from the Greek word gigantas (meaning giant) which he said everyone used to call him, and the typical suffix found in Cretan surnames –akis due to his father’s origins from the Greek island.
Gigantakis’ parents and his older sister are of average size. He said he had a happy childhood and never faced discrimination and that gave him the security, along with support from relatives and friends, to make a career in what he wanted to do, and he has performed in films and on stage.
Following a successful career in Greece and having participated in many popular shows, such as Super Bingo, Candid Camera and Remote Control, Gigantakis figured Las Vegas was a wise move because there are jobs there for little people and little prejudice. He is working at the Tournament of Kings Show in the Excalibur Casino, while he has also participated in many other events and with celebrities.
