Having lost the battle with cancer, eminent member and former supreme president of the Panmacedonian Association of USA and the Thessalonikian Society of NY, Sotiris Proios passed away at the age of 81.
Sotiris Proios was born in Thessaloniki in 1931. His father, Petros fought in the Macedonian War. S. Proios got married to Despina Kakoulidou in 1964 and had two daughters. He and his family came to live in New York, where they built a clothing business and particularly his own fur industry.
He was a genuine Greek, who participated in every struggle of the Greeks of Diaspora to preserve their traditions and ethics. He also defended Greek national issues, such as the FYROM name disoute.
His work and valuable service to the Greek-American community has long been recognized and appreciated.
The Panmacedonian Association of USA issued an announcement officially expressing their sincere sorrow and paying their condolences to Proios family.
The burial service will take place tomorrow at noon at the Church of St Dimitrios in Merrick, Long Island.
