Dimitris Yeros’ Photo Exhibition in Throckmorton Fine Art Gallery, NY

Throckmorton Fine Art Gallery in NY presents the new photo exhibition of Greek artist Dimitris Yeros and Chinese Gao Yuan entitled “Colors of Passion” running until September 8th.

The exhibition was inaugurated on June 14th and features 25 pictures shot by Dimitris Yeros and another four by Gao Yuan. Both artists have focused their latest work on presenting the human figure in a most realistic, technically flawless and precise light.

According to Peter Weiermair, Dimitris Yeros’ work is depicting the confrontation of the static nude with the animal and, consequently, the reflection of the categories naked/dressed, natural/artificial as well as of the terms: rationality and instinct, beauty and sensuality. A second group of pictures deals with pictures that might be understood almost as a paraphrase of Alfred Hitchcock’s “Birds.” What composes this attraction for butterflies and snails that emanates from the surprised, naked, even subdued victims? The animals face man in a diverse form and function. At one time almost emblematically as if in a children’s book (animal/man), then again in a poetical/narrative manner in a sense of standardization of man, where the animal is humanized or a certain animal determines a certain type of man. But moreover, there is this type of picture that stresses the weird and menacing animal side with the black humor of Surrealism.

These pictures have been hosted in different galleries around the world but never in Greece. ZOOM magazine, one of the most prominent international magazines has recently used one of Yeros’ pictures as its front cover with a 6-pages long feature on the artist.

Throckmorton Fine Art is one of the most important NY galleries and has already hosted the works of prestigious photographers and artists, such as Manuel Alvarez Bravo, Henri Cartier-Bresson, George Platt Lynes, Tina Modotti, Edward Weston, Flor Garduno, Anderson and Low, Graciela Iturbide, Mario Gravo Neto, Luis Gonzalez Palma and Lucien Clergue. Dimitris Yeros has been showcasing his work in Throckmorton Fine Art for the past 15 years.

Gao Yuan is a young but talented photographer from Taiwan. The current exhibition is her first one in the NY gallery.
