Lacons living in the USA and Canada have kept an eye on their beloved homeland struggling with crisis. At the annual conference of the Pan-Laconian Federation of USA and Canada, attendants discussed the possibility of providing Greek social institutions with financial support, such as nursing homes and hospital of Sparta as well as the Laconia-based institution for people with incurable diseases.
During the conference, held in San Francisco, California, Lacons of US and Canada decided to establish a special committee which, in collaboration with Archbishop of Monemvasia and Sparta Efstathios, would raise money to contribute to Laconian institutions, since about 17 of them belong to the Archdiocese, according to The National Herald.
At this annual conference of the Federation, John Vlahakis was elected President of the Pan-Laconian Federation of USA and Canada, while Lacon students who are about to begin their academic studies were granted scholarships.
