American Media Report On Greek Election Results

A flurry of reports about the election results from Greece have appeared in various American media, announcing New Democracy’s victory over SYRIZA and refering to several possible scenarios concerning Greece’s future.

CNN and FOX NEWS TV channels broadcast pro-bailout Samaras’ victory and stress the fact that, despite being the first party, New Democracy cannot form a majority government on its own thus necessitating the need for cooperation with other political parties. More specifically, FOX NEWS commented about the possibility that New Democracy would cooperate with PASOK , former first party in the country. According to the report, both parties show their will to cooperate with Europe so that Greece remains in Eurozone.

Wall Street Journal, writing simultaneously as The New York Times, announced that at least temporarily, Greece does not face exit from the eurozone and the  single European currency.

A Washington Post headline refers to Greece by saying that pro-bailout parties may form a government soon, while New York Times brings up the difficulties that the future coalition government, or “national salvation” government as Samaras calls it, may face in the future.

Last but not least, LA Times comment that, if New Democracy fails to form a coalition government soon, Greece may announce repeat election once again.
