2012 Global Summit of Women to Take Place in Athens

The Global Summit of Women is a non-profit program, funded by the Washington-based Women’s Research and Education Institute.

Its purpose is to bring successful women from all over the world together and expand their economic opportunities through exchanges of working solutions and creative strategies forged by women leaders in different parts of the world.

This year’s summit will take place in Athens from May 31 through June 2. Titled “Women: The engine of economic growth,” GlobeWomen economic forum asks the attendants to “break Greek myths.”

Greece continues to be a leading exporter of aluminum, nickel, copper, and magnesium.  Known for its leading shipping industry, the Summit will feature women shipowners in the program,” writes the Forum concerning the upcoming summit. “Given the current economic crisis, the 2012 Summit focuses on growth areas in the global economy in which women will play a pivotal role.”

President of the Global Summit of Women, Irene Natividad, stated, ” We chose Greece to host this year’s summit because we believe that we should be close to the place where someone may need us.” And she stressed the fact that Greek women will have the chance to show another image of Greece – a more positive one – abroad.
