Boston: Square to Be Re-dedicated in Memory of George Menichios

George Menichios was born April 14, 1890 in Megalopolis Greece. On October 4, 1918 he was killed in action when  his company was engaged in a fierce battle in the Montrebeau Woods, which was part of the famous St. Mihel and Meuse-Argonne Offensives. He is buried close by in the Meuse-Argonne Cemetery, 26 miles northwest of the city of Verdun. He was cited for gallantry in action and special meritorious service. The Boston City Council, on September 12, 1921, authorized a square in his memory at the junction of Arlington and Boylston Streets. Now, the community decided to honor him by re-dedicating the square to the eminent Greek of Diaspora.

The re-dedication ceremony will take place tomorrow in the center of Boston, Saturday, May 5 2012 at 1:30 pm, in memory of the great Greek fighter. The square, called George Menichios Square, expects be flooded by Greek-Americans honoring their ancestor.
