Paintings of Theodoros Stamos To Be Auctioned At Christie’s

Three paintings of the late Greek-American abstract expressionist painter Theodoros Stamos will be auctioned at Christie’s Fine Art House in New York on May 9.

The Auction House’s collection includes many works of distinguished painters of the post-war period. “Extraordinary artworks made by leading contemporary artists from the 1960s through today” will be presented at Christie’s, according to people in charge for the auction.

The works of Stamos – “Solstice,” “Taygetos” and “White Field No2” – will be auctioned at the starting price of $35,000, $120,000 and $200,000 respectively.

Even Hillary Clinton admires the late Greek-American painter’s work. During a meeting she had with former Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou last year, she showed special interest in the painting “Infinite Field-Delphi” by Stamos, which adorns the prime minister’s office.
