Olympian Pyrros Dimas Attends NY Charity Event at ‘Panatha USA’ Club

Famous Olympic and world champion weightlifter Pyrros Dimas has landed in New York. The great athlete will contribute his time to help raise funds for the Greek school “Homer” in his home city Himara, participating in a series of events.

He visited Greek-Orthodox Archbishop Demetrios this past Friday, and later went to the Panathinaikos Club “Panatha USA” where he was well received. Dimas impressed attendees with his humble behavior and sincere commitment to the cause.

Members of “Panatha USA” promised that they will make their best effort to help enhance the Greek school of Himara, where a Greek minority lives, preserving memories of a beautiful “Greek” past.

During the ceremony, the Greek Olympic champion received souvenirs from the excited members of the Club and took dozens of photos with everyone.

Pyrros Dimas will be Grand Marshal at Boston’s Greek Independence Parade on April 22, which will be held in downtown Boston.

Dimas was born on October 13, 1971 in Heimara in Northern Epeiros. He is a retired weightlifter, and as a four-time Olympic champion and six-time world champion, is considered one of the greatest weightlifters of all time.
