Arianna Celebrates First Huffington Post Pulitzer with Champagne!

Today, Greek-born Arianna Huffington (Stasinopoulou) has an extra reason to be very proud of her “digital child.” The Huffington Post will go down in history as the first commercial onlineĀ publicationĀ to receive a Pulitzer Prize.

HuffPost’s David Wood won the Pulitzer for his “Beyond the Battlefield,” article becoming the first online reporter to receive the top honor in Journalism.

AOL’s leaders, including Arianna Huffington, Tim O’Brien and Tim Armstrong, along with the staff of the Huffington Post, celebrated the reporter’s win of a Pulitzer at the AOL headquarters in New York on April 16. Wood joined the celebration via Skype.

ā€œItā€™s the culmination of what we started to build almost seven years ago,ā€ Huffington said about the honor.

ā€œItā€™s a great affirmation that great journalism can thrive on the Web.ā€

The award not only adds credibility to the Huffington Post but re-affirms the fact that journalism’s future is in the world wide web.

InĀ 2011,Ā AOLĀ acquiredĀ The Huffington PostĀ for $315 million and made Huffington President and Editor in Chief of The Huffington Post Media Group, which includedĀ The Huffington PostĀ and then-existing AOL properties such asĀ Engadget,Ā AOL Music,Ā Patch Media, and StyleList.
