New York: La MaMa Theater Hosts Greek-American Play "The π-Roject" Based on The Persians by Aeschylus

La MaMa presents the “Eclipses Group Theater”, a performance company working in New York and Greece, in collaboration with Zishan Ugurlu, Artistic Director of Actors Without Borders – ITONY in “The π-Roject”, an innovative performance based on The Persians by Aeschylus, the oldest surviving play of the western world. “The π- Roject” is part of La MaMa’s 50 years celebration.

The original play is about the loss and decline of a nation and the radical changes that followed, all experienced through the self-examination and criticism that their grief and pain induces. In present day, Greece is experiencing one of the most difficult times in modern history, a cataclysmic financial war. The parallelism is clear and the outcome of the creator’s inspiration outstanding.

The production team and leading actors, Ioanna Katsarou and Dimitris Bozinis, explained that they share Greeks’ pain and expressed their sympathy through this unique play.

“The π-Roject” will be performed in Greek with English supertitles.
