Secretary General of the UN, Ban Ki-moon, and the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Cyprus to the UN, Ambassador Minas Hatzimichalis, held a farewell meeting yesterday on the occasion of the latter’s departure from New York to become the new Ambassador of the Republic to Berlin from April 1st.
The Greek Cypriot Ambassador brought the greetings of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Dimitris Christofias, to the UN Secretary General, and thanked him for his ongoing commitment and efforts to find a mutually accepted solution to the Cyprus Problem.
During the meeting, the two men made an update on the developments concerning the Cyprus Problem to date and discussed future prospects. They also discussed the content of the last report on Cyprus conducted by the UN Secretary General.
Ban Ki-moon asked Hatzimichalis to pass on his greetings and wishes to Christofias and reiterated that he will continue searching for a solution to the problem. Furthermore, the UN top official thanked the Permanent Representative for his cooperation and wished him all best in assuming his new duties.
The new Permanent Representative of the Republic of Cyprus to the UN will be Ambassador Nicholas Emiliou.
