Michalis Psilakis: The Greek-American Master Chef of New York

The Greek-American master chef Michalis Psilakis, is being praised by the US media for both his traditional and reinterpreted Greek menus. The New York Times and Esquire have featured extensive articles on the young chef, who is responsible for putting Modern Greek cuisine on the culinary map.

Bon Appetit and Esquire named Psilakis “Chef of the Year”, while the Greek-American master chef has also received prominent Food & Wine’s “Best New Chef” distinction.

During his short time in the culinary world, he has gained many of the food world’s highest honors and opened two successful restaurants in New York City: the recently closed Anthos and the newly opened Fish Tag.

Anthos was awarded a Michelin star and was named the third of ten best new restaurants by the New York Times.

Psilakis has even cooked for Barack Obama during an event in 2009. Thus, he was the first non-American chef cooking in the White House.

The Greek chef, who feels utterly inspired by his home country, has claimed that his work aims to introduce Greek cuisine to all Americans and giving “Greek food a place on the culinary stage”.
