Greek-American Boxer Claims World Champion Title

Half Greek and half Irish, Donovan “Da Bomb” George is a Chicago-native boxer fighting for the World Champion title in the middleweight category.

Promoting his upcoming 10-round super middleweight showdown against fellow top-rated contender Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez on March 17, taking place at The Theater at Madison Square Garden, Donovan gave two different press conferences.

One of them was delivered in Greek-populated Queens, Astoria, where Greek media and politicians, including the Republic of Cyprus Consulate General Koula Sophianou, attended and encouraged the Greek community to support the boxer on his coming fight on March 17. If Donovan wins, then he passes on to the final round for the World Champion title.

The boxer talked about his grandparents coming from Cyprus and the Peloponnese, emphasized his affection for Greece, and claimed to be ready to win the upcoming fight for all the Greeks around the world.

Donovan also thanked the Greek Community for its direct support. The boxer so far has 28 victories on record and only 4 defeats.

The upcoming fight will be broadcast to more than 180 countries worldwide by the HBO channel.

Leon Margoulis, well known figure in organizing international athletic events and spokesperson of DeBella Entertainment, supported that the upcoming game will bear the Greek colors and that Madison Square Garden will be full of Greeks that night.
