Kean Theater To Present ‘The Odyssey’ of Homer

“The Odyssey” will open at Kean University’s Wilkins Theater on Friday.

Adapted by Mary Zimmerman from the translation by Robert Fitzgerald, the play is based on the ancient Greek poem by Homer. “The world’s first action hero, Odysseus, struggles across the ‘wine-dark sea’ to return home to his loving wife,” explained E. Teresa Choate, co-director of the Kean production with Anna DeMers. “Odysseus must battle beautiful immortals and terrifying monsters.”

The cast features Steve Sharkey of Washington as Odysseus, Amber Adeleine of Garwood as Athena, Andrea Rogers of Cliffside Park as Penelope and Steven Carter of Union as Telemachus.

Performances are Friday, Saturday, March 2 and 3 at 8 p.m.; Feb. 25, 26 and March 3 at 2 p.m. and March 1 at 5 p.m.

Tickets are $15, $12 for senior citizens and $10 for students and children. For more information and to purchase tickets, call (908) 737-7469 or go to keanstage.com.

Wilkins Theater is located on the Kean campus at 1000 Morris Ave. in Union.
