Main Street Landmark "Palace Diner" Shuts Down

Palace Diner on Main Street has been serving locals and politicians with Greek food delicacies for almost 30 years. On Friday, December 30, this will change forever.

The once cozy diner will shut its doors for good and will be replaced by a new upgraded Chinese restaurant.

“I’ve had a good run, it’s time,” owner George Mantzikos told the NY Daily News. “I’ve been fortunate to have good customers and good employees.”

The employees as well as the customers are sad over the news of the shutdown and compare the diner with family.

According to NY Daily News, the Palace opened in 1976 on Main Street and the Horace Harding Expressway, with its dramatic stone facade and neon sign establishing it as a roadside landmark in the bustling area.

The popular Greek eatery has been one of the many enterprises that have been affected lately by the financial turbulence and the changing demographics.

The rising Asian population residing in the neighborhood is demanding for more changes in habits and customs but this has led to the disappearance of many old familiar places.
