Chairman of Association of American Philhellenes Promotes USA Stamp Collection

Panagiotis Peter Nikolopoulos is the Chairman of the Association of American Philhellenes 1810-1840 in USA and one of the most eminent people of the diaspora that still pays tribute to Greece.

Panagiotis was only 34-years-old when she left Greece to travel to Chicago, USA. He was married to a Greek-American woman from Leukada and they were working together in order to open 5 restaurants in USA.

Panagiotis Nikolopoulos managed to promote a collection of stamps dedicated to American Philhellenes that have already been approved by the postal services management and will probably begin to circulate widely on April 19, a date established by the Hellenic Parliament as Philhellenism and International Solidarity Day.

The stamp series, titled ‘Association of American Philhellenes 1810-1840’, will feature the grave of George Jarvis, the portrait of Dr. Samuel Gridley Howe, as well as the emblem of the American Philhellenes Society (APS).

Each stamp costs 44 cents and gives information about the Americans who struggled and sacrificed themselves for the liberation of Greece.

This is only the second time such an honor has been bestowed upon a foreign country by the Postal Service, as a series of stamps honoring the state of Israel preceded the current Greek collection.
