New Website for 82 Year-old Greek-American Basketball Tournament

America’s oldest Greek basketball tournament now has its own home in the digital universe. The National Hellenic Invitational Basketball Tournament (NHIBT) this Fall launched www.NHIBT.com, a treasure trove of memories, friends, and family spanning eight decades and counting.

In conjunction with the website, tourney president Phil Bouzeos announced that the 82nd annual competition will tip off March 29 and conclude championship Sunday April 1 at Fenwick High School in Oak Park, a suburb just west of Chicago. The new website, a tourney first, boasts vintage photos reaching back to its inception in 1931. More are being added weekly, including classic images circa 1960’s, the NHIBT’s heyday when upwards of 2,000 revelers descended upon Chicago’s downtown region for the highly-anticipated annual Saturday evening soiree, held at such legendary institutions as the Knickerbocker Hotel or Aragon Ballroom. Modern era photos and statistics will also be posted soon.

Participation in the NHIBT is open to those of ethnic Greek descent. Divisions include Men, Women, and Boys High School. Last year’s tourney hosted approximately 40 teams with more than 300 players. The venue is equipped with two gymnasiums, including the state-of-the-art main floor which was built a few short years back when current NBA star Corey Maggette played at Fenwick.
