The Most Famous Greek Barber in the USA

George Papalimberis was born in 1935 in Loganikos of Lakonia, South Greece. He became a police officer but he did not enjoy his work. When he was thirty he decided to leave for the USA.

The police officer became very soon the best barber in Boston, with eminent customers such as Obama, Doukakis, Papandreou and Karamanlis.

In 1967, he opened his first barber shop in Boston. In 1978, he left this area and opened the famous “La Flamme Barber Shop”. Opened in 1898 by Arthur La Flamme, a French-Canadian immigrant and the store’s namesake, the barber shop has been going strong for the past 99 years.

“At the moment I own 4 barber shops in Boston and they are all very popular because of reliability and good service”, Papalimberis told Espresso newspaper, adding: “I have been cutting President Obama’s hair from 1989 to 1991, when he was studying in law school.  In fact, he was very endearing but no one could imagine that one day would become the President of the United States”.

Michael Dukakis has been his customer for many years. He had followed him to every store that he has owned.

In 2010, Papalimberis’ barber shop was in the top ten on the list of the best barber shops (47,426) in the US.
