An attack on the Noble Energy oil rig which is carrying out the hydrocarbon explorations off Cyprus and is flying the American flag will be considered an attack on the United States, the daily Kathimerini reported quoting Richard Stone, chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organisations. Stone said that Turkish premier Tayyip Erdogan is following his own course distancing himself from the West and moving towards the East.
Stone also said that Erdogan used the Mavi Marmara incident ”as a pretext for a divorce” (with Israel). Asked if he is worried about the Turkish threats against Israel and Cyprus, he said that Erdogan’s threats are causing concern. The U.S. State Secretary Hillary Clinton has taken a clear stand on the matter and the Obama administration is following the question with great attention. ”It would be hard to imagine Erdogan carrying out an attack on the platform, although it is difficult to make a forecast about the moves of the Turkish Prime Minister,” Stone concluded.
