Chicago’s Build the Peace Committee hosted Peace Day at Chicago’s Daley Plaza on September 23. The annual event brings together people from all nations and all walks of life, to promote peace in the world.
The celebration features the World Peace Flag Ceremony, a colorful procession of the world’s flags – including the flag of the Hellenic Republic – carried by members of the Chicago Consular Corps, representatives of ethnic and cultural institutions, students and volunteers. Voices fill the Plaza as everyone joins in sending wishes, thoughts or prayers for peace to each country of the world.
Local dignitaries attended, including representatives from the Greek Consulate in Chicago. Cultural performances included songs of peace by children from area schools, plus Chicago’s dynamic trio, the Other 3 Tenors. Live world music accompanied the joyous and moving Flag Ceremony.
