Greek- American Soldier Reports Sexual Assault by Fellow Soldiers

At least fourteen people, twelve women and two men, have been victims of sexual harassment by fellow-soldiers, while they were serving in U.S. army. According to a “Daily Mail” article, 29- year-old Panayiota Bertziki, from Sommerville, Massachusetts is among the victims and brought action against the Pentagon.

Additionally, the young woman had to face comments by her fellow-soldiers, who called her a “liar” and a “whore”. The fourteen victims claim that Pentagon officials have ignored their requests. In addition, one of the fourteen women claims that she had been raped in Iraq and this hideous act was videotaped. This video circulated the Pentagon.  Officials argued that “despite the marks all over her body, she did not act as a victim of rape and she did not fight enough to avoid it”.

The victims claim that the servicemen have not been punished and that the women have to co-exist with them in the same working environment.

Among the names of the accused soldiers, Robert Gates and Donald Rumsfeld (current and former Ministers of Defense of the USA), are also reported. They claim that they have never been able to take efficient measures for the protection of female soldiers.
