President Papoulias Receives Princeton University Professor of Philosophy Alexander Nehamas

On Wednesday, the President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias received Alexander Nehamas, Professor of Philosophy at Princeton University. The distinguished professor was named Honorary Doctor of Aristotle University, of the Philosophy Department.  Yesterday he was also awarded an honorary doctorate by the Art Theory and History Department of the Athens School of Fine Arts.
Nehamas, who comes from Thessaloniki, has devoted his scientific, literary and educational work mainly on Nietzsche and Plato.  He joined Princeton in 1990, and worked on his doctorate thesis under the direction of Gregory Vlastos. He has also been the Chairman of Princeton Humanities Department. He describes his approach to philosophy applied in our times as a “form of life”.
