University of Illinois Forms Greek Expatriate Teachers Program

The formation and certification program for Greek expatriate teachers will start in the fall of 2011, in cooperation between the Education Coordinating Office of the General Consulate of Greece and the University of Illinois. The agreement of educational cooperation concerning this pilot program was signed in October 2010 by the coordinator of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad, Theodoros Spyropoulos. The program came into fruition with a subsidy by the Theodoros and Errica Spyropoulos Foundation. The $75,000 in scholarships will cover the tuition fees of the first twenty candidates. The agreement refers to the formation and certification of Greek expatriate teachers, to teach Greek language and culture to Greek schools of the Diaspora.
