Pan-Hellenic Scholarship Foundation Awards $300,000 in Scholarships

The PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation hosted its annual Scholarship Awards Banquet and Gala on November 13 in Chicago.

More than 600 guests gathered at the event, as $300,000 in scholarships were awarded. The evenings emcee was Fox32 sportscaster and three-time Emmy Award Winner Lou Canellis.Frances Fragos Townsend,CNN network political analyst and former chief homeland security and counterterrorism advisor to President George W. Bush, was honored as this year’s Paradigm Award recipient.Past Paradigm Award recipients include Dr. Thanasis Economou, University of Chicago and NASA Senior Planetary Specialist and Peter H. Diamandis, Founder/Chairman of X-Prize Foundation.

The Foundation was established by well-known businessman/philanthropist Chris Tomaras. Each scholarships are awarded to high-achieving college and college-bound scholars in $10,000 and $2,500 increments. This year, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation provided an additional grant that awarded $40,000 each to the top two recipients over a four-year period. The grants make a profound difference in the educational pursuits of the students.

The PanHellenic Awards are offered to all US students of Hellenic descent pursuing undergraduate students. They are selected based, first and foremost, on academic merit, and include a Scholarship Award and induction to the PanHellenic Honors Society, as distinguished lifetime members. It is the intention of the PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation to continue to offer $250,000 in Scholarship Awards to deserving Greek American students each and every year.

“This Foundation has a single mission: to promote education by which Greek American scholarship recipients become significant achievers and, guided by the values of their Hellenic upbringing, contribute meaningfully to the ongoing development of American society,” said Tomaras.
