NBC5’s Kim Vatis to Headline Event Honoring Greek Women

The Greek Media Club recently reported that NBC5’s Kim Vatis will headline an event hosted by Chicago’s Greek Women’s University Club on January 9, 2011. She will be the keynote speaker at a scholarship luncheon, “Celebrating 80 Years of Promoting the Arts, Culture, and Education.”

The Emmy-nominated Vatis, who joined NBC5 in 1997 as a general assignment reporter, was recently named the permanent morning co-anchor of the station’s weekend morning newscast. In 2009, she received “Best Reporter” Excellence in Journalism award by the Associated Press. Earlier this year, Vatis was awarded a Silver Dome for Best TV Reporter from the Illinois Broadcasters Association. The Westport, Conn. native – who traces her Greek roots to Athens and the island of Lesvos – lives in Chicago with her daughter.

The Greek Women’s University Club was established in 1931 to encourage philanthropic, cultural and educational activities for women.
