The Holy Hmiatonomos Church of Crete in Florida under the Ecumenical Patriarch, removed Archimandrite Theophanes Lemonakis (photographed) from his position. The Archimandrite had been performing services since last March at the Church of the Ascension of Christ, of the Holy Monastery of Saint Irene in Clearwater, Florida; which is part of the Archdiocese of Crete. The reason for his removal was that he refused to obey the Archbishop of Crete Irineos to return to his position in Crete where he had a group of 30 to 35 parishioners. He left and opened his own church of which the Ecumenical Patriarchate did not approve.
