by -

It is the beginning of the new school year for Greek-Americans of New York.  According to the Department of Education of the Greek Archdiocese, the school year 2009-2010 there were 1922 Greek-American students enrolled in their schools.  In the city, there are 11 elementary schools that function under the Archdiocese Community and the high school of Agios Demitrios in Astoria, Queens is the only school that runs as would a high school in Greece.   This year is the first year that the school of Three Hierarchs of Brooklyn will be working in collaboration with St. John’s University and the school “Sotiros Ellinas” of the Church of Assumption will be functioning only as a nursery school and child day care.
