The names of Greeks in Boston are being displayed at the Museum of Fine Arts of Boston. The couple, Mr. Lykourgos and Evanthia Kontakis are the donors of the wing for ancient classical artefacts, whilst George Behrakis has entirely financed the new wing of the historical American museum.
Evanthia Kontakis, walking around the Museum halls and stands for a short while in front of the inscription “Lio and Evanthia Kontakis”, featured at the entrance of the new Ancient Wing. She has served as President of the National Philoptochos of the Archdiocese of America. Born in the USA, but her Greek is excellent. A woman of the business world, with a high ranking position in a multinational company, Ms. Kontakis does not forget her roots.
“Our parents and grandparents knew that one great obligation burdened their lives as they began their great journey to America, the land of prosperity. They knew that the eyes of Greece and history were turned on them. They came here poor, but rich in hopes, dreams, will. They came here proud of their history, bearing the light of the Greek spirit”.
It must be noted that the “Lio and Evanthia Kontakis” Wing at the Boston Museum features a major collection of sculptures from the 4th BC to the 3rd AD, a collection of black-figure vessels, as well as statues adorning the ancient Greek monuments.
