Olympia Dukakis to star in ‘Elektra’ at Getty Villa

As the newspaper “Los Angeles Times” reported, the oscar-winner Olympia Dukakis, Tony-nominee Manoel Felciano, Pamela Reed and Annie Purcell will stat in the new production of Sophocles’ “Elektra” that opens in September at the Getty Villa.

Directed by Carey Perloff, the artistic director of San Francisco’s American Conservatory Theatre, “Elektra” will run at the Getty Villa near Malibu from the 9th of September to the 2nd of October. The production will feature the debut of a new translation by award-winning British playwright Timberlake Wertenbaker.

Purcell will play the title role of Elektra and Felciano will play Orestes, Elektra’s brother. Dukakis, who won a supporting actress Oscar for “Moonstruck,” will play the role of the Chorus while Reed will take the part of Elektra’s mother, Clytemnestra.

The new production of “Elektra” will play at the Getty Villa’s Barbara and Lawrence Fleischman Theater. It will run in parallel with the the museum’s exhibition titled “The Art of Ancient Greek Theatre,” which focuses on artistic depictions of stage productions in ancient Greece.
