Archbishop Demetrios of America Receives Pension from the Greek State According to "Vima"

According to an article in the Greek newspaper “To Vima”, the Archbishop Demetrios of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America is one of the priests that retire from the Greek State. The information came up after the census of the Greek clergymen, either in action or retired. However, the Archdiocese of Athens gave no answer.

Mr. Demetrios receives the pension because he was serving as a clergyman in Greece for many years and in 1990’s he discharged in order to be elected as the Archbishop of America by the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
The information was surprising, as the Archdiocese of America is one of the most robust Archdioceses of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and its budget is more than 19 million dollars.

The newspaper “To Vima” visited the Archdiocese that should collect the biographical information of the clergymen that draw their salary from the Greek state.
The project-leader is Mr. Anastasios Vlavianos with a group of 12 members who can use the Internet in order to register the clergymen.
